You Won’t Know

I know this song wasn’t originally written about chronic pain, but it could very easily serve as an anthem for that as well. Meanwhile, do watch The Hunting Ground.

Cleaning

The life of a chronic pain sufferer is different from that of someone who is more able bodied in a few ways. For instance, I basically take my life in my own hands every time I take a shower, quietly asking whatever deity that might be listening to help me not slip and fall. There’s also using the flimsy shower rod for support when I try to turn around.

Meanwhile, dishes may pile up, the laundry doesn’t get done as often as it should, etc.

Then there’s something like cleaning.

I moved into my tiny house back in November of last year, and since then, it hasn’t had a full and proper cleaning. Quite frankly, my right leg (and more recently, my left leg decided to join in the fun) never really allowed it. I have a vacuum cleaner and I’d use it when I tracked sand in from outside, or when a sprayed bug of some sort needed to be disposed of. Other than that, my floors have been in basically the same condition for the last nine months.

For whatever reason, my legs have been behaving kind of well for the last week or so, and little by little, I’ve been doing some cleaning. Hey, I’m not complaining.

It started in my bathroom (still have to do the shower, now that I think of it) and moved over into the main part of the house. I’ve cleaned the sink, the area around the sink, my countertop, gone through the refrigerator and thrown out anything expired, vacuumed the carpet under and around my desk, dusted the desk itself (surprising number of dead gnats behind my iMac, for whatever reason) and even cleaned my computer’s screen with glass cleaner.

Tasks that remain ahead are to mop the bathroom and main living area, and do a proper cleaning on the shower. This is all assuming my legs continue to behave.
